An epoxy floor coating is a two-part resin, mixed on site, that bonds to clean, ground concrete and cures hard. A two-coat roller coat on a sound slab is €30 to €50 a m²; a thicker full system is €50 to €120 a m².

These are the industry's bands for resin floors in BS 8204-6. Thicker lasts longer under heavier traffic, and costs more.

What goes down, in order

Diamond grind or shot blast the slab to clean, open concrete. Vacuum.
Fill cracks, holes and joints.
A primer that soaks in and bonds. On damp concrete, a moisture-tolerant one.
The body coat, in the colour, with flake or grit if wanted.
A top coat: epoxy, or polyurethane or polyaspartic where UV, heat or scratching matter.

What the slab has to be

Dry. A new slab has to dry out before it's coated, and an old one tested. Damp is the most common reason a coating fails.
Warm enough. At least 10°C in the floor for most epoxies, and the slab a few degrees above the dew point so no condensation forms.
Sound. Weak, dusty or crumbling concrete is ground back or repaired. A coating can't hold a weak surface together.

What is epoxy floor coating?

A two-part resin, mixed on site, rolled or poured onto prepared concrete, that cures into a hard, sealed, washable surface.

How thick is an epoxy floor?

From under 0.3 mm for a coating to 2 or 3 mm for a self-levelling floor and 4 mm or more for a resin screed.

Can epoxy go over tiles?

Not as a rule. The tiles and adhesive come up, the slab is ground, then it's coated. Some systems bridge sound tiles; ask the installer.

Is epoxy coating waterproof?

The cured coating is impervious, so spills sit on top and wipe off. It won't stop damp coming up from under the slab on its own.
